OAU screening was moved, so do not rely on old dates
OAU first fixed its 2026/2027 screening for 1 to 5 September. It later moved the exercise to Friday 25 to Wednesday 30 September. If you are reading an old blog that still says early September, ignore it.
The school said candidates who registered could find their screening date and time inside their profile on the screening portal.
To be considered for OAU this year, you needed to pick it as your first choice and score at least 200 in UTME. Direct Entry candidates had their own screening exercise too.
CAPS went down right when schools were working
Here is something that affects almost everybody. JAMB's admission portal, CAPS, was shut down on 24 September because of problems with its hosting arrangements. JAMB said it was back and working by 28 September, so schools could continue processing admissions.
What this means for you is simple. OAU and other schools lost a few days, so expect the lists to come in a bit later than you may have guessed.
It does not mean your admission is cancelled. The official closing dates did not change: 31 October for public universities, 30 November for private universities, and 31 December for polytechnics and colleges of education.
How to know if OAU has admitted you
Do not wait for a message from a friend or a blog. Check these two places yourself.
- Log in to your profile at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, choose your exam year, and enter your registration number.
- Check the OAU admissions portal and the school's notices on its website, because OAU announces its admission steps there.
If the CAPS page shows "Admitted" for OAU, accept it quickly.
You can see the full steps in our guide on how to check and accept admission on the JAMB CAPS portal, and you only have about four weeks before the offer can be taken away, as explained in this guide on the four-week window.
Why your score alone will not settle it
OAU does not admit people only by UTME score. Your UTME result, your screening result and your O'Level grades all count, and the course you chose matters a lot.
Medicine, Law and Pharmacy always take people far above the general mark, while less crowded courses take people lower.
OAU publishes its own admission notices, so look at those for how the school weighs each part. Meanwhile, use the JAMB aggregate calculator and the cut-off mark checker to see roughly where you stand. Treat the answer as a guide and not a promise.
Things that can quietly block your admission
Many candidates lose sleep over an admission that is stuck for a very ordinary reason. Go through this list before you panic.
- Your O'Level result is not uploaded on CAPS. Fix it with our guides to uploading NECO or uploading WAEC.
- OAU is not your first choice on your JAMB record.
- Your result has a missing subject, which you can read about in our NECO result guide.
- You have not completed the school's own screening steps.
Most of these problems can be fixed in a day or two once you notice them. The trouble is that many candidates only find out after the list has come out.
Check each item this week, so you are not surprised later.
If OAU does not call your name
Do not sit and wait until the last week of October. If you see nothing by mid month, start thinking about a Plan B.
You can ask JAMB to move you to another school, as we explained in how to change course or institution. You can also read our guide on late admission options that still work.
Also watch out for people online who say they can "help" you get into OAU for a fee. Nobody can buy you admission. If someone collects money outside the school's official payment page, that person is a fraudster.
What to keep ready now
Have your documents sorted before the offer comes, so you do not rush later. You will usually need your O'Level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government letter, passport photographs and your JAMB result slip.
Our guide on documents for screening and verification explains each one.
A simple plan for the weeks before 31 October
Public universities close their lists on 31 October, so the next few weeks matter. Treat them like a small project instead of a long wait.
- Check your JAMB profile every two or three days, and write the date and result in a small notebook.
- Confirm that your O'Level result is uploaded and that your names match on every document.
- Keep your phone number and email active, because notices come there.
- Decide now what you will do if OAU does not admit you, whether that is another school, a different course or a private university.
Making the decision early takes away the panic. If you wait until the last week, you may have to choose in a hurry and pay for something you did not plan.
The bottom line for OAU candidates
OAU's screening moved to late September, and CAPS lost a few working days, so a slower list is no reason to lose hope. Check the official places, accept any offer quickly, and keep a Plan B ready.
When you are ready to compare options, our guide on private universities still admitting shows what stays open until 30 November.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about this guide
1Has OAU released its 2026/2027 admission list?
OAU admits in batches through JAMB CAPS and its own notices. Check your CAPS profile and the school's website yourself. Lists passed around on WhatsApp or random blogs are not official.
2When was OAU post-UTME screening for 2026/2027?
OAU moved its screening to Friday 25 September through Wednesday 30 September, after first planning 1 to 5 September.
3What UTME score does OAU need?
OAU's 2026/2027 screening was open to candidates who chose it as first choice and scored 200 or more in UTME. Competitive courses take far higher aggregates.
4Why is my OAU admission not showing on CAPS?
Common reasons are a missing O'Level upload, OAU not being your first choice, a batch that has not been released, or an incomplete screening. CAPS was also offline from 24 to 28 September, which slowed many schools.
5What is the deadline for university admissions this year?
JAMB's deadline is 31 October for public universities, 30 November for private universities, and 31 December for polytechnics and colleges of education.
6Can I still change to another school if OAU does not admit me?
Yes. You can request a change of institution or course through JAMB. Read our guide on how to change course or institution so you do not pay in the wrong place.
