Cookie Policy

Understanding how cookies and web beacons help us provide a seamless, secure educational discovery experience on SchoolGateHub.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed onto your computer, tablet, or mobile phone by websites that you visit. They are widely used to make websites work properly, improve browsing efficiency, remember user preferences (such as your chosen faculty or search filters), and provide analytical and reporting information to website operators.

Cookies do not cause harm to your device and cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses.

2. How SchoolGateHub Uses Cookies

SchoolGateHub utilizes cookies to deliver an optimized browsing experience for Nigerian students, teachers, and parents. The cookies we employ serve several distinct functions:

A. Strictly Necessary & Functional Cookies

These cookies are essential for the fundamental operation of our website. They enable core features such as secure page navigation, load balancing, search query handling, and CSRF token verification. Without these cookies, basic platform features cannot function.

B. Performance & Analytics Cookies

We use first-party cookies to measure how SchoolGateHub is used: a random visitor ID (sgh_visitor_id, kept for up to 13 months), a short session ID (sgh_sid, 30 minutes) and, for site administrators only, an opt-out flag (sgh_ignore). We record the pages you view, where you came from, your approximate country and device type, and key actions such as signing up, starting a practice test or subscribing. If you are signed in, these records are linked to your account. We do not sell this data. It helps us see which guides are read most often and improve page speed and content.

C. Advertising & Third-Party Cookies (Google AdSense)

Our third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense, place cookies on your device to display relevant advertisements that match your educational interests. These cookies prevent the same ad from reappearing continuously and help assess ad effectiveness.

3. Google Advertising & DoubleClick DART Cookies

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on SchoolGateHub.

4. Managing & Disabling Cookies

Most modern web browsers allow you to control and manage cookies through their settings preferences. You can configure your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it. You can also delete all cookies currently stored on your computer.

Here is how you can manage cookie settings in common browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data.
  • Apple Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions > Manage and delete cookies.

Please note that disabling certain essential cookies may affect the interactive functionality of our search bar and calculator widgets.

5. Questions Regarding Our Cookie Practices

If you have questions about our use of cookies or other tracking technologies, please contact our data team at [email protected] or via our Contact Page.
