You checked your NECO result, took a screenshot, posted it in the family WhatsApp group, and everybody celebrated. Good.
But here is a question nobody asked: does JAMB know about that result? If your CAPS profile still says "Awaiting Result", then as far as admission is concerned, you have not written NECO at all.
NECO released its 2026 SSCE internal results on 24 September, which means thousands of candidates are now in the same position. The public university admission deadline is 31 October, so there is not much time to waste.
This guide shows how to get your NECO result onto your JAMB CAPS profile, how to confirm it arrived, and how to avoid the small mistakes that cause big delays.

Your NECO result is out, but JAMB cannot see it yet
Checking your result on NECO's portal and uploading it to JAMB are two separate things. The first only shows you your grades.
The second puts those grades into the database that schools use when they decide who to recommend for admission. NECO's own result portal at results.neco.gov.ng is where you view your grades, using your registration number and a result-checking token.
Nothing you do on that page changes your JAMB profile.
If you have not yet checked your result, use only NECO's official portal and ignore anybody promising to "upgrade" grades. Upgrades do not exist, and the people selling them will only take your money.
Why "Awaiting Result" can freeze your admission
Many candidates register for UTME while their O'Level exam is still pending, so their profile carries an Awaiting Result status. Guides on this topic repeat the same warning: admission cannot be processed for candidates whose O'Level status still shows Awaiting Result.
Schools can have your name on a list, but they cannot complete your recommendation until your grades are in the system. One writer put it plainly: institutions will pass over your file if you do not finish the upload.
If you are also wondering why CAPS still says Not Admitted, a missing O'Level upload is one of the first things to rule out. We explain more in our guide for candidates who are not admitted as the deadline approaches.
What to carry to the CBT centre
Go prepared, so you only make one trip. Here is what the centre will usually ask for:
- Your JAMB registration number.
- Your NECO result, either the printout from the portal or a clear copy of your statement of result.
- Your NECO examination number, which the operator will use to enter your grades.
- The phone number and email linked to your JAMB profile, in case the operator needs to verify you.
- Cash for the service charge.
Put everything in one folder the night before, so you are not searching for papers at the gate. Bring both the original and a photocopy of each document.
Also carry a little cash for the centre's service charge. Ask the price before they start work, and collect a receipt.
Step by step: how the upload is done
The route most guides describe, and the one reported alongside JAMB's own CAPS guidance, runs through an accredited JAMB CBT centre. Here is how it goes:
- Find an accredited JAMB CBT centre or a JAMB office near you. An ordinary cyber cafe cannot process this, so confirm the centre is accredited before you pay.
- Give the operator your registration number and your NECO details.
- Let the operator enter your examination type, examination number and grades into the system, and watch the screen to make sure everything matches your result.
- Collect any receipt or slip the centre provides, and keep it.
- Go home and wait. Reports suggest the result usually appears on CAPS within about 24 hours, though it can take longer when the system is busy.
Some blogs describe a self-service upload online. Because the instructions differ from one source to another, treat the CBT centre as the dependable option and do not give your CAPS password to a stranger who offers to do it online.
How to confirm the result actually reached CAPS
Do not assume it worked just because the operator said "done". Log in to the JAMB e-Facility website at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Access my CAPS, and click My O'Level Result.
You should see your NECO subjects and grades exactly as they appear on your result. If the page still says Awaiting Result after a day or two, go back to the same centre with your receipt and ask them to check.
What the upload usually costs, and what is too much
Centres set their own service charges. Reports on this process mention fees from about ₦500 to ₦1,000, with some centres charging a little more.
If someone asks for several thousand naira, ask why and compare with another accredited centre. A fair charge is for the service, never for "making your result pass".
Name, number and grade errors that cause trouble
Most failed uploads come from small mistakes. Look out for these before you leave the centre:
- A wrong examination number, with even one digit out of place.
- Subjects entered under the wrong exam type, for example NECO subjects typed as WAEC.
- A grade entered wrongly, such as C5 captured as C6.
- Names on your JAMB profile and your NECO result that do not match. If you notice this, sort it out with the relevant body early, because it can block both screening and clearance.
Check each detail on the screen before the centre confirms the upload. Once it is submitted, a correction can take days and sometimes costs extra.
If you see a mistake, speak up at once. A calm request at the centre is easier than a long complaint later.
If you used both NECO and WAEC
Some candidates combine results from two exams to reach five credits. Whether a school accepts that depends on its own rules, and many limit the number of sittings.
Read our explanation of the rules for combining WAEC and NECO results before you upload both, and check your target school's requirements.
Next steps once your result shows
An uploaded result is the beginning, not the end. Once it reflects on CAPS, log in regularly for your admission status.
When an offer appears, remember the four-week window: read our guide to accepting your JAMB CAPS admission in time. For checking offers on both CAPS and your school portal, our guide on how to check admission status in Nigeria will help.
Final word
Treat your NECO upload like a bill that must be paid before a deadline. Do it this week, confirm it on My O'Level Result, and keep your receipt until you have been admitted and cleared.
Ten minutes at the right centre now can save you from a lot of stress in November.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about this guide
1How do I upload my NECO result to JAMB CAPS?
The dependable route is an accredited JAMB CBT centre. Take your registration number and NECO result details, let the operator enter them, then confirm the result under My O'Level Result on your CAPS profile at efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
2How long does a NECO result take to show on JAMB CAPS after upload?
Reports on the process say it usually reflects within about 24 hours. If it still shows Awaiting Result after a day or two, return to the centre with your receipt and ask them to check the entry.
3How much does it cost to upload a NECO result to JAMB?
Centres set their own charges. Reports mention figures from about ₦500 to ₦1,000, sometimes slightly more. Be careful if someone asks for several thousand naira and compare with another accredited centre.
4Can I upload my NECO result myself online?
Some blogs describe an online upload, but the instructions are not consistent and JAMB guidance reported this year points to accredited CBT centres. Use a centre, and never share your CAPS password with a stranger.
5What does Awaiting Result mean on JAMB CAPS and does it block admission?
It means JAMB has no O'Level grades on your profile yet. Guides warn that admission cannot be processed while that status remains, so upload your results as soon as possible.
6Can I upload both NECO and WAEC results for admission?
You can have more than one result on your profile, but whether a school will combine them depends on its own policy and usually on the number of sittings it accepts. Check your target school's requirements before relying on a combination.
